Seit 1971 arbeitete der junge Atomingenieur Nikolai Steinberg auf der gigantischen Baustelle des Atomkraftwerkes Tschernobyl. Im Nirgendwo baute die Sowjetunion ein Paradies für Atomingenieure und deren Familien. Es entstanden das Atomkraftwerk Tschernobyl mit vier Reaktorblöcken und die ukrainische Stadt Prypjat - eine Stadt vom Reißbrett für die "Atomschtschiki", jene Atomtechniker, die im und um das Atomkraftwerk arbeiten und leben sollten.
